(Second half. This was a long time ago and I had to make it a specific length. So, it’s a bit rushed. Hope you like! All rights to me)
“Haha. The look on your face was priceless.”, it laughed while digging out a bottle labeled Advil, and tossed it to Jason; who managed to catch it.
“Medicine.” it said.
Jason examined the bottle, and then began to examine his savior and the contents within the bag, medical supplies, a bit of food, and lots of bottled water. He took two of the pills as were recommended on the back of the box, and then laid back down still weary of the other person in the room.
“Animal Farm?” it asked, as it finished digging all of the provisions out of the bag. Jason looked down at the book and said a tad nervously, “Yes it’s a great book.”
“What did you think of the characters?”, it asked as it got up and headed to the large bookcase at one side of the room.
“Napoleon reminds me of a man I know, and the other animals are the masses that get tricked into believing that their leader’s way is best.” There was no response from the figure but instead it grabbed a book from the shelf and tossed it at Jason. “It’s a good book and shows that humans need to journey at some point in their lives to attain a better world view….” It paused to take of it’s helmet. It came off easily enough, and once the dark black mask was off, it revealed the face of a woman. Shock initially washed over him. A woman he thought a beautiful until he noticed something. Her area around her right eye was scarred over and a bit red. Even though she was fair of skin, had jet black hair, and one beautiful blue left eye, he couldn’t help but look at her eye. The scarring hadn’t happened recently and the red tissue around it alluded to something else entirely.
“Wha?” was all that Jason managed to say before, she headed for the door, smiling; she said “I’ll answer your questions a bit later, just read for now. I have to take care of a few things. With that she slipped through the door and headed into a corridor of darkness.
With nothing else to do he cracked open the book and quickly began voraciously reading The Odyssey. It was all he could do to get his mind off of his predicament; for Jason realized what she was somewhere between the Cyclops and Circe. She was a mutant!
After about three hours and another book Jason had barely managed to grasp, she was back, dressed in black jeans and a black tank top. She presented a plate of food in front of Jason, and sit cross legged next to him. “What did you think of it she asked?” “It was wonderful.” he managed to say in between bites.
For the next few hours the duo began discussing animal farm and The Odyssey in detail, even going so far as to reread some parts to analyze them completely. Somehow in between the reading and discussion, Jason managed to ask he what she was. At this she thought hard and long and then replied. “It depends on what type of answer you want. On one hand I’m a human, on another I’m a biological mass, in another a body of energy that is part of the universe, or just a soul guiding a biological mass. Then again I could just be a mutant.” Jason’s head was swirling with thoughts, but she had answered his question and before he could inquire further she spoke, her eyes now alight with girlish glee. “Befooooore I tell you my life story; how about you tell me your name.”
“Jay san Aug a stus” she pronounced it. “So you’re like Caesar and Octavian?”
“Yes a bit I’m the leader of the mind. And it’s Jay son”
“The mind? Jay san.”
“It’s Jay son!” he said a tad perturbed.
“Na uh”, she replied smartly.
“Ya huh”, he replied shocked at his own childish reply.
The argument went on and on until the girl asked a question. “What is the mind she cutely asked, the frustrated Jay san. Giving up he laid back on the couch and began to explain. The body was responsible for health of society. The arms manufactured and built things. The feet were in charge of all forms travel. The mouth took charge of all media. Then there are the two groups prepared for any hostile attack, he chuckled at this but the young woman was listening intently to every word. There’s the shield division and the sword division. The shield produces protective gear and is in charge of defenses against hostile attack. The sword is in charge of weapon production and attacking things that threaten our nation. Jason said the last bit sarcastically. “So” she said, you manage all of them, as the mind right?” He confirmed her suspicions and she nodded approvingly. “But I’m useless.” He said. The woman inquired and Jason told the long and painful story of his life. He was the pinnacle of humanity, but could not break cultural conformity. He recounted the saddening tales of his life; a life of knowing that things weren’t right, but submitting to his culture; submitting to what was expected of him. These stories lasted for hours and culminated with the tale of Antony’s slaughters. By this point he was crying, his eyes were puffy and red, his speech pattern was broken and he could barely talk at all. The mutant girl, who had remained silent and empathetic, throughout the entire story got up and gave Jason a tender hug and wiped the tears away from his eyes. Then she sprung up as quickly as she had hugged him. Grinning from ear to ear she spoke, cheerfully.
“You can’t change the past, but you can change the future. Rest here for a while and get your strength back.” She then walked towards the door, and spoke softly and empathetically back to her new friend. “I’m Jane….Jane Doe, and don’t beat yourself up you’re a good person.” With that she disappeared down the dark hall way. Somehow speaking out about the atrocities he had seen had lifted a terrible weight off of his shoulders. Sleep soon consumed him.
For the next few weeks Jason recovered in Jane’s house. She made him food and gave him interesting books that she thought might help him, which he voraciously read. He read 1984, a collection of Greek tragedies, and the Iliad, and a host of Greek philosophy. From which he learned about Aristotle, Plato, Zeno, and dozens of others. It was Zeno however that caught his interests. In his teachings all people were united because they all had this flame within them. Logos it was called. Jane and Jason discussed and debated the teachings of the philosophers, and talked about the true meanings of the books they read. It went on like this for weeks, and every week Jason grew stronger, as did the connection the two of them shared.
One night, when the two of them finished reading, she broke out something called a DVD and begin playing these quaint films on on old TV. That night they watched 2001 A Space Odyssey. By the end of the movie Jane was humming Daisy and Jason began not watching the movie, but her. She looked so beautiful in this atmosphere. She had one flaw, but the rest of her was incredible. Her mind, body, and personality were astonishing. Without even realizing it he had kissed her.
Jane was shocked at first but relaxed and embraced him. That one night was one of the greatest days of his life. The all powerful Alpha’s greatest and most cherished moment was with a mutant, in a dingy rickety house, surrounded by old technology and old books and Jason wouldn’t change a thing.
In the morning the two got up and conducted the day as usual, except for the kissing and flattery. When it came time for her to forage, Jason pleaded to go with her. Not knowing how to say no to her lover she gave in and let him follow her out into the world.
They walked for what seemed like an eternity. She nimbly climbed over the wreckage of cars, and fallen buildings; without her mask on. But she carried an old rifle within her gloved hands. Jason of course asked why it was necessary, and her only reply was “Some mutants aren’t as civil as me.” pleasant conversation was had after that, but Jason now knew of the danger the old world possessed. All he had to rely on were his years of training. Soon the two found an old market of some sort with a large W hanging down from the roof. They found everything they needed to survive and more within the dusty aisles that once teemed with eager shoppers. Eagerly the two began the long and arduous trek back to Jane’s house, halfway in she stopped. Dropped her bags to the ground, and took the rifle in both hands. Jason was about to ask a question, but stopped suddenly….there was some type of hissing going on. Then as if sensing Jason’s confusion, a large mutated creature jumped at him. Just as its grotesque body and rows of razor sharp teeth came into view, it exploded; leaving blood and guts everywhere. “Come on!” Jane shouted while firing at the horde of creatures that were slowly coming after them. Her aim was impeccable, every time the gun fired one of the monsters died. Soon however they found themselves backed into a corner. Just as the creatures were about to come close enough to attack from all sides, a dreadful howl filled the air. The mutated creatures ran at hearing this.
For a second neither of the two made a howl as they froze, listening for any hint of the creature that had made such a fearsome noise. Jason backed up against the hard concrete of the wall behind, as did Jane.
“Raaaaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhh!” A piercing brutish scream echoed through the chasm of the old world, just as the echo stopped the wall behind Jason exploded with force, sending Jason and what was left of the wall flying everywhere. Gun fire erupted as Jane shot at the looming figure within the cloud of dust. Just as Jason got himself re oriented he wished he hadn’t. Behind him was a massive beast like humanoid. It stood a little over 8 feet tall with sharp tusks and pale tough skin. “Move!” Jane shouted, as she started another volley. The creature felt the pain and writhed in agony, but instead of dying it got up and tackled her, knocking the gun in the air and her into the wreckage of an old Buick.
Jason’s world stopped. Jane lay within the shattered remains of the windshield; motionless. Something burned deep inside of him, before he knew it he had attacked the beast. It felt the kick, but managed to withstand it. Eagerly it attacked Jason, slashing at him madly with it’s claws. Left, Right, Duck, jump. He managed to dodge all of the blows, but his jacket and right pants leg were another story entirely. With all of his years of training he had barely managed to keep up with the creature. For a brief second he looked over at his love, slumped lifelessly on the car. New determination rose from within his body. It was the first time he had felt like this. It was if fire coursed through his veins. Looking the creature up and down for weak spots as the claws came ever closer to touching his body he noted one thing, the beast had no ears just a pair of red eyes. For a second it stopped it’s onslaught, which was where Jason began his. He launched a series of brutal attacks up the middle of the creature; that would have killed a human, in a vicious kick to the throat. As the creature stepped back his hands move with the speed only years of tireless practice could produce. The monster rolled around screaming in agony, hands against his face, trying to keep the blood from seeping down it’s horrendous visage. Within his hands Jason held the beast’s eyes, it’s primary means of locating prey. With that the beast slinked away, as did Jason to his love. Looking closely at her he noticed her chest move up and down faintly… a sudden smile crept up on his face, and within moments he had created a makeshift stretcher.
“Tick Tock Tick Tock.” was the sound that came from the analogue clock on the wall of the hospital waiting room. Jason sat there wearing ripped clothes and still dirty from his fight with the mutant. He sat within the white sterile waiting room for what seemed like an eternity listening to that damn clock. Then as if by a miracle a tall stringy, gamma doctor walked in with a clip board. Before Jason could even react he spoke in a nasally tone. “She’ll be fine Augustus.” At this he almost hugged the doctor, but after the good news came a series of questions as to who she was, why were they out there, and what was with the mark on her eye. “She is an agent of the mind and her name is Jane Doe. We were out there searching for a better area for the Deltas to live, and she was injured quite some time ago on another mission into the old city.” The doctor wasn’t stupid and was about to inquire when he received a look from Jason that could have melted through the wall. He moved out of the way and told Augustus what room he could find the woman. She was laid back in the hospital bed calmly smiling to herself when her lover entered. Immediately tears began rolling down her face, as she thanked Jason, for all he had done. “I-I’ve never known someone else like you Jay san you saved my life….” sensing her uneasiness he hugged her tighter and spoke. “I’ve never known anyone like you either Jane….I love you.” He she laughed to herself. “It’s a good thing you do, the doctor told me a secret…..”
“A child.” she said barely containing her grin. Tears began flowing down his face, at the mention of the child. Finally he thought. I’ll have what I’ve always wanted. Within a few more weeks, Jane was officially moved into Jason’s house and registered as an Alpha. She had passed all of the I.Q. Tests with what people said was “Befitting of the wife of the leader of the mind.” Jason also began to reform the laws, to give more protection to Deltas and the other classes. With a little help from his betrothed he managed to explain that if things were going to improve the base classes would need to improve to, during all of his meetings and conferences and during his speeches as well. Now he began wearing neutral colors with no indication of his status. Soon others had began to emulate him. Some of the more liberal Alphas accepted the change as did the Gammas, Betas, and the ever grateful Deltas. However a specific group still held out the traditional beliefs.
Jane was also a whirlwind of change she introduced philosophy, to the masses. It wasn’t long before the ideals of Logos began to spread throughout the world. Within a few months, it had seemed like the world began anew. But there were still some social taboos. Members of the other classes interacted with each other, but there was still bias.
“It’s all thanks to you.” Jason said to his wife as they sat on the couch within their home. “No I only helped silly, you’re the one who should get a commendation; although I did reintroduce the classical works back into the world.”, she said with the same expression on her face as always. Jason rested his head against his wife’s bulging stomach and could feel a tiny kick from their child. “It likes you.” she said.
“I like it too.” he said nuzzling her shoulder. Just as he closed his eyes something gleamed from just out of sight. He sprung up, but it was already too late. The clink clink noise of gas canister hit the floor and before either of them knew it a purple gas filled the room.
“Wakey Wakey.” a familiar and loathe some voice called out. He was still groggy, and bound to a chair. He knew just who he would see when he opened his eyes. Antony stood in front of him decked out in all purple. He smiled that smile of his and began pacing the dark dimly lit room. “So. You thought you could upset the natural balance of things did you.” Jason’s mouth opened to respond, but a swift punch from Antony shut him up. Then another then another, until a mechanical voice called out. “Enough Antony.” He headed the voice and stopped attacking, but managed to get one more hit in. Two security drones walked into the room and pointed their lasers directly at Jason. “You’ve disturbed the world quite a bit Auggie. “Any last words?” He remained silent and decided to look his murderer straight in the eyes. His hand rose up, the same motion he used against those Delta’s so long ago. Then he dropped it. Bright light filled the room and a horrible agonizing scream soon followed. There with holes smoking with his face and back Antony lay. “Come.” the mechanical voice said. The doors slid open and one security sentinel lead the way through the dimly lit small corridors of this obviously ancient building. The swords insignia hung on every corridor he and the robot passed through. Then they came to a huge metal door. It opened and let Jason through and quickly closed behind him. He could hardly believe what he saw. It was a computer room like he’d never seen. Hundreds of thousands of wires and computers filled the room. He followed all of the wires to one central point a large wall with a green electronic eye lodged within it. “Hello.” Jason it said. “This turn of events has been very fortuitous for me.” Jason just stood there with his mouth gaping open. “Hmm it.” said “It seems as though I you haven’t figured it out yet. I am Prometheus the supercomputer created to bring mankind into the light after the bombs dropped and almost destroyed all life on Terra.” “But how….The sentinels.” “Smart as I had expected you to be.” “I was given the task of ushering in an era of humanity that was perfect. With the sentinels help I began mixing the gene pool working to create the perfect humans, and now I am at the ending to my task. You Jason Augustus are the genetically perfect human being, and with your copulation with that mutated creature, you have assured my accomplishment. By comparing her genes with yours I can now create the genetically the perfect woman.
“Where is my wife!!!!!!!!” Jason roared. Realizing the gravity of the situation. A monitor popped down showing her hooked up to some type of machine. “A genetic scanner” the computer said. At this he calmed down, but the pained look on her face disturbed him. “So over all of these years you’ve been controlling the human race.” “Yes.” the emotionless robotic voice answered back.
“It was fairly easy to manipulate you humans with the Sentinels and a few key genetic pairings.”
“A loyal buffoon who thought that the sentinels were loyal to him.”
“I was given genetic materials to remake the human race with. It took thousands of years of selective mating, but look at what has been accomplished.” it said, obviously referring to Jason. “Daisy Daisy.” Jason heard singing coming from the monitor, she was in pain, but the monitor was obviously two ways. She was trying to tell him something. His mind rushed back to the weeks he had spent in her care, and then remembered one key fact that Jane had viciously stated. “Computers can’t handle metaphysics.”
Feeling emboldened he walked up closer to the eye and spoken to it. “So tell me Prometheus, you’ve given your light to mankind, but tell me do you really think I’m perfect.” “Yes” it replied again. Next Jason began taking off his clothes making sure to show the computer all of his scars. The big green eyed turned red as it thought about the scars. “Tell me Prometheus. Why would a perfect being seek its own destruction. Why have I the perfect man tried to kill myself so many times over these years.” “Look at these scars!” he shouted. “Why? How? Could I be perfect, but do something so imperfect to myself.” At this the computer’s eye began to change first yellow, then blue, then purple, violet, and finally a dark purple….. “I….but you are genetically perfect in body in mind….have I failed?…why…..what…..self…destruction imperfect…….10101010100001101010101010.” The room’s wires began glowing a bright red which signaled Jason to hide. Soon it blew up, a hole within two of the walls was visible. One contained Jane, and the other shone the bright morning light of the sunrise. Quickly Jason redressed and rushed to his wife freeing her of her imprisonment. He held her hand close to his. Frantically he yelled and screamed as he pulled the wires that were attached to her. “You’re gonna be ok! Ok! Were going to be fine we’re going to change the world you and”
“I”, Jane managed to utter.
A lone figure walked through a bustling park. Tall broad shouldered Deltas were intermingling with Gammas. Alphas,Betas,Gammas, and Deltas all moved throughout the pristine park. All wearing different colors. A few feet in front of the figure. Children laughed and played. A tall broad shouldered child carried a much smaller kid on his back, while two others raced in front of them to the ice cream vendor. He was a tall jovial if slightly dim man, but he took the child’s orders and in a few scoops the children were off.
“Jane”, the figure called out. One of the children bid farewell to her friends and raced over to the man. She wore a black shirt and blue jeans. Dark hair cut short as if to frame her eyes. One eye was perfect, but the area around the other was slightly red rough.
“Dad”, Jane screamed as she reached out for her father’s hand. Jason grabbed his daughter’s hand and smiled.
“Did you have fun today”, he spoke gently as the two began walking.
“Yeah”, she spoke energetically only to pause to lick the tip of her ice cream cone. “Bob, was giving Mandy a piggy back ride and Alex said he was havin a party! Can I go? Can I go? Pretty Pleeeeeeeeasse?”, she implored both eyes growing big as she looked up into her father’s eyes. “Sure”, he said. “But, only if you finish your homework and I can talk to his parents a b……..” Jason froze in place. Every time he walked through this park this one item always managed to give him pause. There standing where he gave that speech so long ago was a statue. Of his wife. Her hair was flowing in the wind so that her mutation was open for all to see. Just under the statute was a plaque.
“To the woman who changed the world”.
“Mama was really amazin huh?”, Jane spoke in awe of the statue.
“Yeah”, her father replied. His daughter stepped up closer to the monument and then began reading the inscription a bit more closely. “Jay san”, she read her father’s name.
“It’s Jay son, Jane not Jay san”
“But, Jay san sounds better!”
